Ottawa Half Marathon Training Plan

Today after my, horrible painful, run I started working on my training plan for the Ottawa half marathon. Yes it is not until the end of May but I wanted to get a start on it and I was getting anxious about my leg (which is injured right now) and the race. Here is the plan I plan to follow.

That is what I came up with using the running room book and Hal higdons plans. Here’s hoping it gets me to the finish line around the time I want!

I Missed It

Remember how I told you the other day about the Detroit Half Marathon being only $55 this week? And how I was on the fence about registering. Well I missed it.

Apparently there was a limited amount of early bird spots available in the week, and they got taken by the time I had decided – two days!

Yesterday at the gym I really thought about the race and was ready to finally register. By the time I got home I saw on their Facebook page that the international half was sold out. The price now goes back to $90 I believe.

I was, and still am, pretty disappointed about missing the cheap price. I love this race and wanted to take another hit at it. That bridge! Yes I can still register for Detroit at the normal price, but I just feel a little bit burned by them that I missed the discount. Which is my own fault. But I think they should have the decreased price for the full week as many people were confused.

Anyways I guess I am looking for a fall race now. In a way I wanted to do another race because there are so many to try, so it guess this is the universes way of telling me to try another race this year.

2013 Recap

2013 was a crazy year, but in a good way!!

I ran my first 10K race (plus two more), bought a bike, graduated university, went on a blind date ..and then a few more, moved back home, my mom bought me a car, taught Kindergarten, started really ‘dating’ for the first time, ran 9 races, went to a wedding alone, and completed my first half marathon. Among many things in between.

It was fun. Made lots of memories. But now we move onto 2014 and see what this year has in store for us.

Last year I made a few goals, so lets see what ended up getting accomplished.

1. Run a sub 30 minute 5K race – I did not end up hitting this one, was 10 seconds off and pretty disappointed.

2. Run a 10K race – yes, ran 3 actually!

3. Run a half marathon – YES! and had a blast doing it, well until the tunnel 😉

4. Run 500 miles – negative. I do not know my final mileage count as my book is at my Dad’s so I will update next week when I get it. Somewhere in the 400s though.

5. Buy a bike – yes, although I didn’t use it very often.

6. Get to my goal weight – nope, nope, nope. Still have a lot of work left to put in to get there.

Christmas 2013 048

So there you have it, I achieved 3 of my 6 goals. Not ideal for most people but I am mainly happy with it. Before April I had never even run a 10K race, and not only did I do that but I also ran a half marathon. I am going to focus on the positive accomplishments and not worry about what I didn’t do.

Now I have to go figure out what I want to accomplish in 2014!

I have been super busy and not busy at all in the last two weeks. But blogging has not even crossed my mind until today. So I thought I would pop back into the world for a quick sec.

Shows you need to watch: Downton Abbey and Homeland. Both of which I have discovered on my Christmas break and addicted to. On season 4 of Downton and 2 of Homeland. LOVE!!

I did some baking in the form of pumpkin pies, cookies, cupcakes and more. Twas delicious.

Spent a shit tone of time with my family, and am loving every second of it!

Ma got me this ornament for the tree, and I love it! You need one? She got it at New Balance London, for my local peeps. They had other distances, colours and sayings as well. But obviously I needed another 13.1

Speaking of 13.1 I registered for the Ottawa half Marathon which is May 25, 2013. Ahhh. My Mom wanted to go to Ottawa, and so she forced me to reg for the race so she could visit the city. I need to put a training plan together this week to start following asap.

Speaking of running I hurt my leg. I think it is the beginning of shin splints, which I don’t understand but it kills. It is my right calf and I can hardly walk today. I also came down with the sore throat/cold and am feeling super shitty. Let’s just say 2014 is starting off great for my body haha.

Yesterday I started my day off with 4 miles for 2014….

It was painful and I walked 1/2 a mile. I have some serious work to do to get back into better running shape. I have lost a lot of my speed that I was working on.

Right now I am trying to figure out which spring races I want to run, and if I want to run Detroit again. This week it is only $55 for the half. I really want to run it but I also want to run different races. But $55 is a freaking steal for a half marathon.

Off to figure out some goals for 2014. What are yours?
