Fitness Teacher?

Last night I had the best sleep! After all of that cardio yesterday I was tired when I got home from spin last night. I zonked right out and had an amzing sleep! I’m a pretty light sleeper, so I always love when I sleep like a rock. This morning my alarm went off at 8AM (I know I get to sleep in these days!) and I turned it off and fell back to sleep. Thank goodness my Mom text me at 8:20 otherwise I would have slept right through the class I wanted to go to!

I headed down to the gym for Group Power, a 60 minute weights class. I think I have mentioned it before but I enjoy this class a lot. It is a great workout, and I can notice a difference in my body after just one class! It is 60 minutes total and for each track it focuses on one muscle group. Example, there are 5 minutes of squats – ouch! Anyways, it was a great class, and I sweat up a storm in it! After the class I went and did 60 easy minutes on the spin bike – by accident! I was only planning to do 30 minutes but the trainer from the Group Power and I chatted for about 35 minutes while I was riding and before I knew it I was already at 45 minutes. So I just rode it out to have a full 60. The tention was light, but it felt good to just spin it out.

The trainer I was talking to is awesome! She is the one who has been encouraging me to run Detriot this fall. More on that tomorrow ;). Anyways, through our conversation, she asked me if I would be interested in auditioning to teach the Group Power class come the fall. At first I didn’t think I would be. But after she left and I was riding on the bike it got me thinking, why not? I have good form (she said), I enjoy the class, and group fitness is something I want to try some day. Why not today? I know how to teach in the classroom, so now I will get to apply those skills to fitness!

Anyways, I am likely going to be trying out and see how it goes. Another job to add to the list. I think it could be really fun and I’m a little excited about it now! Also, this is a bit of a motivator to get on the healthy eating waggon. I don’t want to be up infront of a group of 10-20 people teaching a class and not have healthy habits myself!

What is new and exciting in your life right now?

Helping Mama

Hello and happy Wednesday!

Today I was suppose to be volunteering in the grade 2 class, but I couldn’t get a car so I didn’t go. No big deal. Instead I started my morning off with a run

3.27 miles 31:08. Average pace: 9:31

I used the Nike + app on my iPod again and this is how my run went!! I took a pretty long walk break at about mile 1.6. I find that when I run with this app, I am running hard. I clicked to hear my pace at a few points during the run and they were in the low 5 km/hr range, which is high 8 low 9 min miles! If this app isn’t lying, than I am so pumped right now!

I didn’t go into this run with any expectations, other than to run. The app has you pick a distance, so I picked 5 miles, I thought that might be fun. The weather wasn’t great, and I didn’t want to get rained on and get my iPod all wet, so I didn’t go too far. A few streets were closed, and so I jsut ended up doing an out and back. I was tired at some points, but felt alright for the most part. I want to run a straight 5K with this app to see how fast I am! I am a bit excited that I am this fast right now, haha.

After my run I came home and did the See Wheeze yoga video that they have posted on Youtube. It was pretty good. I am going to try and do a few yoga videos a week, to try and get back into that. 2 years ago I was pretty good at practicing, I was taking 2 classes a week, each being 1.5 hours. Now I can barly hold a proper down-dog lol. Tonight I am headed to my favourite spin class!!!

This afternoon I am working on a fitness plan for my Mom! She wants to get a bit more active, but needs to keep things low intensity so she asked my to put something together for her. Here is what I came up with for her, so far. She works weird shifts so some of it will have to be moved around. This is meerly something she can loosly follow, just to get moving. I attached 8 different walking interval workouts that she can try and do at work on her lunch, they have a TM in the break room!! I really hope she likes it and keeps at it!!

Missed a day, or 2

As I told you yesterday, I took Sunday as a rest day. I thought that by taking a day off my body could really rest and recover and I would be back at it 100% ready for Monday. Or not.

Yesterday I didn’t make a workout happen. I went and got groceries in the morning with my Mom, and then in the afternoon I got busy doing other things. And to be honest I just didn’t feel like it. Lazy.

I find that when I take days from working out off it is harder to get back at it sometimes. It is like if I don’t take any days off then it is easier to keep it going. Weird, I know. But today is a new day and I’m back on the workout wagon!

I got up and headed to the gym. I did an hour weights class, which killed me! I love this class, but I haven’t done it in a few weeks and it destroyed me. The tricep track had my whole body shaking. But I love feeling this way! After the class I headed to the cardio room and did an easy 30 minutes on the arch trainer, followed by 35 minutes on the spin bike. I left a sweaty mess, just what I needed!!! I feel great 🙂 It amazes me what a workout can do to someones mood!

I was suppose to run yesterday, and then I bumped it to today but it is raining today so I didn’t run. Also my legs have been killing me and I have these massive blisters on the bottom of my feet from wearing my sandles on the weekend. So now I am trying to decide which days to run now.

Delima, we are going camping Friday-Sunday so I won’t have gym access lol. I need to plan so I still get workouts in, although I know myself and I won’t want to workout at all. Run plan: Wednesday, Friday, Sunday. So Saturday I’ll just find lots of other active things to do.

My eating wasn’t great yesterday, crap! But I was determined to turn things around today. My Dad had the knock-off Lucy Charms cereal here, and I really wanted to try it! So instead of depriving myself, and then eating a whole bunch of it, I had a mug of it with my toast this morning. One mug of that crap isn’t good for me, but it is also not going to kill me. If having one mug is what will keep me on track today surrounded with a large amount of junk food in the house, than so be it! And now I know it wasn’t even that good 🙂

And lastly I leave you (more myself) with this reminder…

Have a great Tuesday!

The Lying App?

Hello and Happy Monday!! For all those American’s out there Happy Memorial day, hope you are celebrating appropriately. Here in Canada it is just a normal Monday 🙂

I hope you all had a good weekend, I sure did!!

Saturday I worked, hung out with my dad (love doing that!) and went for a run! The run was weird, here is why. Since my Garmin is broken I used the Nike+ app on my iPod nano. I was planning to do a 10K so I set it up for that. The run itself was tough. I didn’t know my distance, pace, time, nothing. I also was running in the city so it was really different. Anyways, I ended up taking 3 longish walk breaks. I ran 8.09KM (5.02 miles) in 49:43. That is a 9:54 min/mile pace over all.

I really don’t know how this happened. I didn’t stop the app during walk breaks, so this was a good pace! I felt like I was running hard, but not that fast!! I can only imagine how great my run would have been if I hadn’t of taken those walk breaks! So I’m not sure if it is the app that messed up or if running ‘blind’/without my watch is good for me. Remember I didn’t look at my watch a lot during Mississauga 10K and I PR’d by 6 minutes. Hmmm, this makes me wonder.

Anyways, I ordered a new battery for my Garmin off of ebay, so hopefully we can fix it and it will be like new again. When I say ‘we’ I mean my Dad, haha. I miss my Garmin!

Sunday I spent being lazy! I was going to go to the gym, and then I was going to go for a bike ride, and then I realized I hadn’t had a rest day in 14 days, so I took the day off. I laid in the lounge chair and did nothing! Well I did go for about an hour walk with my brother’s girlfriend. I wore my Birkenstock for the first time this year and now I have massive blisters on the bottom of my feet -ouch!!!!

Yesterday I ate some sweets, but didn’t go overboard! Today I just can’t get my butt moving. I haven’t worked out yet and I just ate a bunch of food for no reason haha. I have also been feeling really tired! blah!

Ok, better go pack, I’m headed to my Dadios for a few days 🙂

Friday’s Food

As a way to get myself back on track, eating wise, I thought I would do a Friday’s Food post! Here is what I ate yesterday, for the most part.

Breakfast: 7:45am

1 whole wheat toast with PB, strawberries/raspberries/pineapple, coffee with milk, water with lemon

Water, lots and lots of water. I put some lemon in some of my water yesterday to keep things real 🙂

Lunch: 12:00pm

Chicken noodle cup-a-soup, bread with spicy humus, cucs + carrots

Snack: 1:30pm

Blueberry Greek Yogurt

Snack: 3:30pm

Dinner: 5:30pm

Angel hair pasta under a thin layer of peanut sauce and shrimp. (didn’t snap a pic.)

Around 8:30pm I started getting hungry but had some water instead of food.

Notes: I was a bit heavy on the carbs, I realize that and I am OK with it. This was a day that I spent trying to get back on track. Making my lunch I knew there was not enough protein in it to keep me full, so I knew I would be hungry in the afternoon. I had a greek yogurt, which filled me up until 3:30, when I was trying to solve my Garmin problem my stomach was growling and I needed food quick. I know myself and knew I would eat the whole kitchen if I did have a big snack. This is when popcorn is perfect! I cooked up 1/3 cup for 180 calories and it let me stuff my face (literally I eat it by the handful) and not kill my healthy eating. Popcorn is such a good snack!! Dinner also wasn’t ideal, I had a salad planned to go with it but we were out, but I kept my portions small and tried not to over do it. Protein was also lacking with dinner, which is why I was hungry again later. I also had a handful of pumpkin seeds and a few dill rice chips.

I am off to work, and then to the Running Room where they can hopefully help me with my watch! Have a great day!!

Broken Garmin

I am in a crummy mood right now, for one reason. My Garmin is broken. Yesterday I went on a run, see below, and it seemed fine. Later I returned to get my stats and it wasn’t working. Well through the last 24 hours I have discovered that it won’t hold a charge. It works fine when I have it plugged in, but the second I unplug it it goes dead. I did manage to get it to stay on for a few seconds and it has the low battery signal and then shuts off.

I’m not happy about this, for a better choice of words. The watch is just over 2 years old. I don’t know how to run without it. I depend highly on my Garmin. Not only for my runs but my bikes as well. Gah I’m so mad!

Moving on to happier things, or maybe not, yesterday I ate crappy too. It was good until the afternoon, and then I went to work and when I got home my family had gotten pizza and I had that. Bad choices! But I turned it around today!

Let’s talk about yesterday’s workout. I want to get faster, so I did a speed workout! I set my Garmin up for intervals, and was off. I did half a mile warm up and then 6x400s, and half a mile cool down. I walked the rest parts, not ideal but I knew it needed to happen in order to complete the intervals.

6 x 400 Stats
2:18 (9:16)
2:20 (9:20)
2:16 (9:08)
2:15 (9:03)
2:13 (8:56)
2:15 (9:02)

There was a mean head wind on the way out, I did an out and back, and it slowed me down a bit. I am very happy with the stats from the workout!! It shows me I can run faster with some work, which is exactly why I did this workout. In the end I completed 4 miles total at around 53 minutes. Yes slow, but that is because of all of the walking. Next week I am going to try and jog 2 of the rest intervals, start small. I know that if I was doing this workout on a treadmill I would have hated every minute and likely not completed it, but outside I can somehow push myself. I hate treadmill running! Another reason I need my Garmin!

I don’t know what I am going to do for my long run tomorrow. Without my Garmin means I’ll have to go on the stupid treadmill or run without any info. Gah! Stupid thing!

Any tips on how to fix my problem child watch?

My Indecisiveness

I have a weird personality, I am very indecisive! Making decisions is not an easy thing for me sometimes. Or often I will change things later on. Something as easy as deciding what I wanted for breakfast this morning was hard! I wanted eggs but didn’t feel like making them, I wanted oatmeal but am all out of my natural PB and almost out of protein powder, and my Mom made muffins but I didn’t want those because I didn’t think it would keep me full and they are not the healthiest. So I stood in the kitchen trying to decide. Finally I just made toast with PB.

Being indecisive is not an easy personality trait to have, I find myself second guessing all the time. On the other end of the spectrum I get frustrated with not being able to make decisions that I find myself being very impulsive sometimes as well. I find my personality works in extremes, never a happy medium – so odd!

Ok, so this post isn’t going where I was expecting it to, haha. I am having the racing itch right now. I haven’t raced in a few weeks, after coming off a 3 week race high, and I want to race. But here is where the indecisiveness comes in. I want to race because I love it, it is fun, and I want more medals on my rack 😉

Only 2 more until all of the hooks are full!!

But on the other hand I know I shouldn’t be racing right now. #1 races are expensive, and I have no money. #2 my runnins has been pitiful lately. I find that my pace is slowing and my distance is too – which is something I am NOT happy with. #3 I have not been training and would not get a PR.

So, what I need to do is commit to a few races, and train my butt off.

Here is what I am thinking and looking for:

#1 My sub 30 5K – Hoping to get this one this summer, but can’t find a local awesome race!

#2 A Sprint duathalon – looking at late summer, but this one really is up in the air. I know I can do it if I train. 2kM run, 20KM bike, 5KM run. I can do that!!

#3 Fall half marathon – looking at Detroit  and/or Niagara. I heard Oakville is good too, same organizers as my favourite Mississauga! And we have a local one in London – Springbank, but it is smaller and I want my first half to be big! I like big races 🙂

#4 Run the 2 August races. I have a 10K and an obstacle run in August and I want to do well in them both! 10K PR hopefully!!!! So no more race registrations in August, but I am going to look into September and October!

It helps me to remind myself of my big goals, and where I want the rest of this year to go, because I forget sometimes and just get all frustrated with myself! I also need to remember for my first half that the goal is just to simply finish and try to enjoy it. Time not being a huge deal!

Ok, so now that you know about my crazy brain thoughts and I have rambelled and tried to get my thoughts organized, I wish you a happy Thursday and remind you to smile!!
